After having a c-section, many women often experience discomfort and sensitivity. Scars can frequently feel tight and uncomfortable during movements, potentially leading to a localised effect on the connective tissue around the scar, resulting in an uneven, raised, or inflamed appearance. This can also have broader repercussions, contributing to issues such as back pain, hip discomfort, breathing difficulties, and pelvic floor problems.

As a registered osteopath and c-section scar specialist, my dual training enables me to address these concerns effectively. I can work directly on the scar and its adjacent tissues, while also identifying and treating compensatory patterns that may have emerged within the musculoskeletal system as a result of the scar.

Benefits of C-Section Massage

01

SCAR AESTHETICS

02

IMPROVED CIRCULATION

Massage can help flatten and soften the scar, improving the overall appearance. Many women find that after a c-section, a 'shelf' can form above the incision. Massage helps increase the scar's flexibility, which can result in a softening of this 'shelf' appearance.

Massage promotes better blood flow to the treated areas, which can aid in reducing swelling and inflammation. Improved circulation also helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the healing tissues, expediting the recovery process.

03

REDUCE PAIN AND SENSITIVITY

It's common for women to encounter sensations such as burning, itching, or sensations akin to electric shocks even with gentle touches, rendering certain clothing items uncomfortable.  Massaging the scar can help desensitise the area by stimulating the nerve endings allowing better sensory repair

04

ENHANCED RANGE OF MOTION

By targeting specific muscle groups, C-Section massage can improve the range of motion in the abdominal area and lower back, making daily activities and caring for your baby easier.

TREATMENT

05

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

C-Section massage techniques can encourage the removal of excess fluid and toxins from the body's lymphatic system, reducing swelling and promoting overall healing.

ABOUT ME

Hello, I'm Jenna. I've been a qualified osteopath, working in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk for the last 10 years. During my time as an osteopath, I gradually specialised in the treatment of mothers and babies, and more recently, postpartum care. Having experienced two c-sections myself and the associated recovery journey, I realised how limited the support and advice is for new mothers post-c-section. It was this limited support that prompted further studying to become a c-section scar specialist. It's my personal goal to assist other women in relieving their pain and discomfort, all while aiding in softening, flattening, and improving the appearance of their scars. Let's learn to embrace our scars, after all they've accomplished something truly remarkable.
